NZ Dating - the basics
By Love and Relationships Staff
NZ dating started in 1998 and competes with Find Someone as the dating site with the highest profile in NZ.
A quick search of males listed on the site between ages 25 and 35 in Auckland revealed that there were 12437 members matching the profile (23rd April 2010). Girls of the same age bracket totalled 9935 members. In the age bracket 50 - 60 there were 4310 men and 2539 women. That’s a lot, and significantly more than the major competition - Find Someone. No man drought here either.
How it works;
A. Join up
There are a number of different membership options on NZDating and the options are explained fully on the website.
1. Standard membership (free)
This means you can;
- Set up a profile and post 2 photos
- Look at other people’s profiles
- Access to chat rooms and message boards
- Email and respond to other members
2. Silver membership (free)
You can upgrade from Standard to silver by providing an email address that is on a “real ISP”, for example, xtra or Vodafone, rather than hotmail or Gmail.
This gives you the following;
- 4 photos (instead of 2)
- Places you higher in the search term list
- A * beside your name which shows “that we have a better idea that you are a real New Zealand user”.
3. Gold membership
Gold membership costs $12.95 for one month. It is cheaper per month if you pay for a longer period, costing $24.95 for 3 months and $39.95 for 6 months.
Gold membership has a number of advantages over Silver including;
- Top listings in search results
- Access to 'Buddy' lists to control photos and messaging
- Up to twenty photos
- Access to members profiles that only allow paid member access
There are a few other terms and conditions but this is the basics.
B. Create a profile
This is similar to Find Someone. One of the major differences between this and find someone is that on NZDating you set the level of content you would like to allow. This goes from conservative (no explicit photos, no messages from people advertising in the sex section) to Adult (anything goes). You also specify what you are looking for, including for friendship, relationships or meetings for sex.
C. Meet people
Now it’s time to go and get started. This involves looking through photos and profiles and messaging people you like the look of, and are looking for the same thing as you (e.g. friendship or relationship).
Get into it.
