Planning a Wedding

By Love and Relationships Staff

So you've decided to take the big plunge and now need to plan a wedding? Now comes the fun and not so fun parts of the ceremony, planning for that big day that every woman has dreamed about since they were little girls.

In the initial wedding planning stages, it's OK to brainstorm and mull over several ideas you'd like to happen on the big day. Jot down ideas and try to envision an overall theme for the big day before actually contracting any vendors for the wedding. Let your imagination run wild at this point in the process before getting to the point of actually nailing down specifics and hiring contractors and vendors.

One of the things that can help tie everything together outside of an overall wedding theme, is the selection of colors for the day. The colors selected will no doubt be a function of the time of year that the wedding will be held. A spring-time wedding will most likely call for green colors and brighter flowers to accent them while a winter-time date calls for silver or gold. Choose colors that speak to your personality and tastes when deciding on floral arrangements, bridesmaid's dresses, and overall decor.

There is a general timeline that should be followed in weddings in order to keep things running as smoothly as possible and avoid last-minute scrambling and undue stress. At least 12 months before the ceremony a wedding dress should be chosen and web sites should be chosen to host the bridal registry. At the 9-month mark wedding flowers should be selected as well as dresses for the bridesmaids. The wedding gifts to be listed on the registry and the music for the ceremony should also be selected within the 9-month time frame.

Once the event is four to six months away, the vendors for the wedding cake, wedding invitations, favors, and decorations should be chosen and deals finalized. Advance booking for motel rooms and other accommodations for out-of-town guests should be done within this time frame as well as all wedding decorations and favors. With the wedding a couple of months away final preparations should be made such as securing wedding rings for the bride and groom, deciding on what the wedding vows will be, and finalizing the ceremony itself.

Your wedding day can be the dream you've always envisioned as long as a schedule is established and adhered to. Carefully planning your wedding can help you to avoid any surprises on a day everyone wants to go as smooth as possible.
